Micah and Christine

plus three

Christine and Charlotte are on their way back to North Carolina. I'll be here for a few more weeks. I'm going to miss them, but as long as Charlotte doesn't forget me, we'll be ok.

Bye ladies! See you in a bit!

This was the last day of our vacation. We still had a few tickets left in our City Passes and we needed to use them up.

The planned adventures included: Golden Gate Park, the California Academy of Sciences, and the de Young museum. The park is giant and both of the museums are inside the park.

Charlotte and I almost got eaten at the park entrance!

First up, the de Young museum. Christine and I both enjoyed this art museum, much more than the Museum of Modern Art that we visited the day before. There were modern pieces, but plenty of traditional works also. Four thumbs up.

The de Young from the roof of the Academy of Sciences

Mobius Basket!

Next up: the California Academy of Sciences. Aside from a really long name and a dinosaur in the lobby, this place also has an organic, local cafe with a wall made out of aquarium! Our food was excellent, and not extravagantly pricey.

There was a little play place for kids Charlotte's age in a quiet room in the back of the museum, er, academy. Christine and I had a chance to rest and Charlotte got to play with a possum!

This is all carpet!

The aquarium there was huge! Much better than the Aquarium of the Bay. Plus they had crazy monkey frogs.

The academy building was designed to be eco-friendly. In fact, it has a 'Living Roof' with plants and fancy water retention and solar panels. There is also an indoor rain forest.

Done with all the museums, we wanted to take a bus tour around the park. We all get on the bus, but I only had $2 and not the $4 we needed (cash only)! With gloomy faces, we got off and tried to decide what to do. All of a sudden someone yells from the bus. A couple saw our predicament and decided to give us $2 so we could ride the bus! How nice!

After the bus ride and a little walk around, we hopped on a city bus and went home.

I have this nervous tingly-in-my-tummy feeling about leaving San Francisco this weekend. I'm ready to go- but I'm sad to be leaving Micah behind. Regardless, there have been lots of things to be happy about this week!
  • Micah's birthday! (see previous post)
  • My daughter's fruit addiction- she ate two plums in a single day. She greedily devours nearly every fruit I put in front of her. This means I really have to give her other food first... or she might eat nothing but the fruit.
  • Seeing this car when we went shopping the other day:
  • The fact that Charlotte regularly eats half of the foods on this list of 10 nutrition powerhouses for kids.
  • This website with pictures of a woman's sleeping baby. Oh my goodness. I just keep on going back to this page... the pictures are so neat! Also, she is from Finland, and gets a wonderful maternity leave and big package of clothing for her newborn... from the government. Don't get me started on the American maternal system...
  • Buying a 2.5 lb package of blueberries, and getting through the entire package. All three of us had fruit for lunches. I also had the chance to feed my summer cooking hobby by making blueberry cream pie and blueberry sauce for Micah's birthday cake and pancakes.
  • Charlotte's current obsession with climbing inside of things to play.
  • I'll end with this little story. Yesterday Micah got home from work and sat down next to Charlotte on the couch. Charlotte picked up his arm, scooted in as close as she could, and wrapped her Daddy's arm around her. Now THAT makes my heart happy.

Today is Micah's 28th birthday!

Micah woke up to breakfast in bed- pancakes! Then he had to go to work.

Mommy and Charlotte did some shopping, then came home to cook food for Daddy's dinner. We chose meatball sandwiches, potato salad (store-bought) and peas.

We also made Daddy's cake. Micah requested yellow cake (box!) with cream cheese frosting, so that is what he got. I made some fresh blueberry sauce to make the Dolby symbol.

That's probably low-cal.

Then Micah opened the present Charlotte picked out- a t-shirt with our neighborhood's name on it!

Happy Birthday, Micah!
