I LOVE keeping homemade chocolate syrup on hand. You know, for the health benefits.

I originally got this recipe when Cate posted it on her old website. (Hi Cate! Congratulations on Baby James!) I think she got it from the book Miserly Moms.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup cold water
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Whisk together cocoa and sugar in a pot. Add salt and water and mix well. Cook over medium heat, bringing to a boil. Remove from heat. When cool, add vanilla. Makes a little less than 30 oz.

Micah says, "It's chocolate syrup that actually tastes chocolatey."

We like using the syrup to make chocolate milk. My favorite lately has been making a dessert with plain greek yogurt drizzled with cherry preserves, chocolate syrup, and almond slivers. Yummmm....

Enjoy!

Oh yum!! I love having homemade chocolate syrup around too! I half the recipe since we don't eat it fast enough. Hate to see it spoil :(

I made a half recipe this week... but sometimes I'll make the full recipe if we're about to have a party, etc.
