Oh, my sweet kitchen
You have served us faithfully
I miss you dearly
You have served us faithfully
I miss you dearly
The night before last my husband used a (very dull) kitchen knife to open this can of beans for our dinner burritos.
What a man!
What a man!
I miss my home, especially when I am cooking. Our kitchen in North Carolina is really nice- by far the nicest kitchen I have had in my life. I think I have been a little spoiled by it, because when I cook in this kitchen in San Francisco I find myself daydreaming about my kitchen back home.
The other day Micah said, "I miss our counters." This came as no surprise to me, and I was thinking of all that prep space I have back home when I asked him why he missed them. His response? "Because they're beautiful."
So, to end my moaning about missing my kitchen, I will just make a list of all the things I miss, in no particular order.

- Nice knives. Sawing one's way through a tomato is not fun.
- A pretty view out my window when washing dishes. I miss spying on all of our older neighbors walking their dogs.
- On the subject of dishes: Having a dishwasher. So, I hate my dishwasher. It was way too much money for something that doesn't work well, but I love having a dishwasher.
- My oven. I felt like I knew what I was doing with it. The one here is gas. Cooking with gas is not as hard as I had feared, but I still don't feel confident.
- Cups. I think we have five cups here, and that includes two beer steins, a mug, and a wine goblet.
- Spices. We bought the basics when we came here, but did not invest in the full array sitting in my cabinet back home.
- Ample counterspace for making meals.
- My aprons and oven mitts, 'cause they're cute.
- Can opener, pizza cutter, food processor, mixer, just about any type of cooking gadget...
- Being able to cook in the kitchen and talk with Micah working on his computer in the office. This is more a function of Micah working a forty-hour a week job than anything else, but I still miss it.
