I've mentioned our little girl's room a few times in previous posts, so I thought I would share what it looks like now. Charlotte's room is quite small, but since the entire house is her playroom it all works out.
Paint color:
When I was daydreaming about what to do with this room over last summer, I seriously considered painting it purple. (By the way, looking back at posts from this summer reminded me how much more time I used to have to blog!) Though I still love the idea of a purple room for her, for several reasons I have decided not to paint it purple.
- Paint costs money.
- Painting takes time.
- Charlotte's room doubles as our guest room. I feel like I shouldn't force our single guy friends to sleep in a fully-girly purple room.
- Repeat #1 and #2.
So I have decided to not paint the room. It will likely stay the golden-yellow color until we sell.
Bed position:
For the first couple of years we lived here, Charlotte's room was our guestroom. To help you orient yourself in the room, all of these pics are taken from the doorway, looking across the room at the room's one window. The bed used to be against the wall like this:
The room has gone through some re-arrangements over the years...
This Fall we had the bed against the window. (my Dad and Charlotte)
...but we finally decided to put her bed back against the corner. So here it is in its (final???) position:
In this picture you can also see Chinese artwork from our
friend Zhimin, Charlotte's diaper pail, and Charlotte's toy chest.
Art:
Way back over the summer I mentioned the adorable wall cards I have from eeBoo. So far I have not put the Alphabet cards up, but the bird cards are above Charlotte's bed. I went with the ultra-cheap option of hanging them up with clothes line and clothes pins. Since I already had the cards, I think the whole project cost me $3. Close-up:
View from the far side of the room:
The other accessories are left over from when the room was a guestroom.
Storage and diapering:
At this point I am not going to change the dresser. It is not a piece of furniture that will move with us, but I anticipate using it until Charlotte is out of diapers.
I recently purchased a little coathook that I plan to put up behind Charlotte's door. I have also considered bringing back the red faux-silk curtains that used to hang behind Charlotte's bed. I don't anticipate any other major changes to this room... unless I find a really killer deal on a nightstand.
